Our client is a global Software as a Service (SaaS) provider specializing in comprehensive clinic practice management solutions for private-pay healthcare clinics in dermatology, cosmetic surgery, medical spa, dentistry, vision care, and women’s health.
The Challenge
Our client wanted to scale up its clinic partner network by streamlining administrative workflows and enhancing patient experiences with a nimble, cloud-based back-end architecture and an intuitive front-end User Interface (UI).
The client’s current clinic enterprise platform was built on outdated technologies, such as ASP.NET, which offers limited customization and lacks support for UI enhancements. As a result, the complex software stack struggled to handle everyday workflows such as patient onboarding, appointment scheduling, follow-ups, Electronic Health Records (EHR), billing, and order booking.
Since the client operates in the highly regulated healthcare industry, the underlying technology architecture must be secure and compliant with applicable laws such as HIPAA, PIPEDA, and CASL. It also needs to be secure and scalable, which was a challenge given that the client had to manually deploy infrastructure that supports multi-currency and multi-tenancy.
The Solution
The client commissioned Persistent to steer an industry-wide digital transformation program and build a next-gen platform that is cloud-hosted, scalable, high-performing, and highly automated to help its partner clinics better serve their patients.
We modernized the client’s legacy applications and revamped the user interface of its clinic enterprise platform by redesigning the front end in ReactJS. We migrated the base code from .NET to .NET Core and integrated it with back-end services with an API-first approach to ensure speed and high performance.
We migrated tenant-specific databases to Azure SQL databases to ensure the isolation of patient data from different clinics and compliance with personal and health information laws.
Our DevOps experts set up continuous integration / deployment pipelines (CI/CD) pipelines in Microsoft Azure to ensure automated, seamless releases. We leveraged Azure-native containers to deploy workloads, making the client cloud-ready. We also plugged in Azure Data Lake Storage Gen-2 to enable the client to tap into advanced cloud capabilities such as AI and Machine Learning for future needs.
The Outcome
With a modernized administrative platform built on cloud-native technologies, the client:
- Expanded its clinic network by a factor of five, from 20 to 100.
- Improved administrative experiences with automated and intuitive workflows.
- Reduced turnaround time of administrative tasks, such as appointment confirmation, from weeks to hours.
