Based out of the United States, our client is a globally leading provider of software systems and services to the public safety community across countries. Over the last four decades, the company has emerged as a trusted brand that empowers emergency communications. It aims to enable first responders to act quickly and effectively.
The Challenge
The client wanted to move away from the archaic legacy system and migrate its operations to the cloud as part of its digital transformation strategy. It was also critical for them to adopt modern technology to gain the required agility in today’s competitive business environment.
- Frequent system downtime impacting business/operations continuity and customer support
- Inability to mitigate the service disruption due to an ineffective failover procedure
- Failure to handle the massive flow of workloads and user demands as their business grew
The Solution
The client considered leveraging the power of the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) to address the challenges mentioned above. They chose Persistent Systems as their digital consulting partner to migrate to the cloud. Here is how we went about helping the client:
- Established connectivity between the upstream legacy system and with Google Cloud Platform
- Set up HDFS Utility to migrate the downstream application data to the Google Cloud Storage
- Set up Dataproc clusters for PySpark jobs to process large-scale data
- Use Google Cloud Storage to ensure the availability of data in real-time
- Implemented CI/CD pipeline using Terraform
- Orchestrated PySpark jobs with Cloud Composer to maintain a robust integrated data environment
The Outcome
Persistent Systems ensured that the migration was quick and smooth, and there was no downtime. We could seamlessly validate and migrate a massive amount of data in just two weeks, totaling 5 TB. Here are some other significant benefits that the client witnessed:
- With GCP, the client is now able to save about 50% on platform ownership costs
- It now has better visibility into the massive amount of system-generated data for improved decision-making
- The GCP migration has also helped the client with proper authorization and authentication processes to prevent data breaches
- With a robust system failover process in place now, it doesn’t have to worry about unforeseen situations affecting business continuity and customer support
