AWS CEO Adam Selipsky kicked off AWS re:Invent 2023 with a keynote that revealed a multitude of new offerings – many centered on how AWS customers can reinvent themselves through the power of AI overall and Generative AI (GenAI) specifically, powered on AWS cloud and storage.

“The cloud is for anyone. Our customers are solving big problems and thinking up the next big thing,” Selipsky told the assembled crowd of 60,000 AWS re:Invent attendees at The Venetian in Las Vegas. “Some people would have you think that all cloud providers are the same, but it’s just not true.”

Selipsky took the audience through what he described as three primary layers of the GenAI stack, displaying how AWS continues to make investments in all of them in concert with partners such as Persistent. He mentioned how Persistent and AWS have closely collaborated on utilizing Amazon CodeWhisperer to drive developer productivity, enhance quality, and augment security.

As customers continue to make decisions about how to best leverage GenAI for enhanced customer service, productivity improvements, and greater efficiencies, he stressed the importance of AWS clients having a broad array of choices to build the most optimal GenAI use cases.

Here are just a few of the GenAI-related announcements from Selipsky’s keynote:

Amazon Q: AWS announced its first GenAI-powered virtual assistant for enterprise employees. The chatbot utilizes natural language processing and responses (so it can ingest questions no matter how they’re asked and respond in ways that users can understand) to provide answers and information for employee queries. This is a significant step forward for AWS as GenAI use cases to improve employee experiences continue to gain traction.

Guardrails for Amazon Bedrock: Responsible AI was a recurring theme throughout Selipsky’s keynote, as ensuring the security and privacy of Large Language Models (LLMs) and the data that powers them is a major consideration for companies interested in building GenAI use cases. His Responsible AI focus included the unveiling of Guardrails for Amazon Bedrock, a new tool for AWS’ flagship AI platform that allows companies to define the kinds of languages used in a GenAI model, filter out potentially offensive or biased data, and prevent a GenAI model from providing inaccurate or inappropriate outputs.

Agents for Amazon Bedrock: AWS previewed Agents for Amazon Bedrock earlier this year ─ and this service is now generally available for all AWS clients. The service is critical to encourage the democratization of AI across a wider audience across industries, as it allows people with little or no coding background to create GenAI-based applications for complex tasks and digital services, such as customer support. The key is simplicity – virtual agents will break down required tasks for a use case, create steps, connect to relevant data sources via integrations and APIs, and automate the entire process on AWS infrastructure. It takes what could be a time-consuming and complex process and transforms it into one that even non-technical users can handle, accelerating development time.

As a Premier Tier AWS Partner, Persistent is among the top 1% of AWS implementation partners for companies looking to maximize their AWS investments, including Amazon Bedrock – which is why we celebrate developments like those announced at the re:Invent keynote that provide clients with the highest degrees of GenAI choice.
