Operative Media, Inc. is a leader in ad management tools with 300+ media companies as clients, $40+ billion in ad revenue processed, and 25,000+ worldwide users.
The Challenge
Operative needed to rapidly build a next-gen SaaS ad management platform with a universal product catalog spanning linear and digital media and support for custom deployments for marquee customers.
The Solution
Persistent conceived and implemented an AWS cloud-based solution designed to accomplish Operative’s principal goals: (1) to offer customers a universal product catalogue, (2) to help publishers grow revenue by transitioning from ratings-based to outcome-based selling and (3) to support audience aggregation capabilities with inventory groupings.
Persistent employed its ExtenSURE framework to analyze 3M+ lines of legacy code for hotspots and technical debt, enabling intelligent sustenance of Operative’s legacy platform. This allowed solution implementation to go forward in parallel while fully sustaining legacy platforms.
The Persistent solution featured a cloud-native API-first architecture with distributed transaction patterns such as service discovery, load balancing, and fault tolerance. Additional technologies and partners, including Angular, Java SpringBoot, Selenium, Pentaho, and MongoDB, were leveraged for the integration of advanced analytics for unified rating engines.
Overall, the Persistent solution delivered 85%+ test automation coverage along with CI/CD, containerization and orchestration. For the customer, this meant an experience that was fluid and customized.
Persistent’s UX team adopted a design-led approach to the new SaaS user interface, creating workflows such as a unified rate card as well as universal product catalog planning. They delivered, responsive UX enabled purchases across all linear, digital, and converged ad inventory with greatly improved ease of use.
The Outcome
The Operative Media solution build required just six months total from concept to alpha, enabling the client to achieve a faster time to market. More than 30 new clients have already been acquired in the first year of launch, with more than $2.5B in ad transactions processed per month on the Cloud-based next-gen platform.
In addition, the self-service SaaS solution requires 75% less order processing, leading to reduced transaction time and significant support cost savings. Finally, the Persistent solution fully supports custom deployments for marquee customers, like Fox and Sinclair.
