About the client
Our client is headquartered in the U.S. and is one of the largest multinational retail corporations. The Fortune 500-listed company runs a chain of department stores, including supercenters, discount stores, and other markets. The retailer believes in bringing technology into retail to offer customers a seamless shopping experience.
The Challenge
With the rapidly changing retail industry, the retail major needed to stay ahead of its competitors with a differentiated product portfolio. The intense competition created the need to expand their existing product portfolio by partnering with new brands and vendors. The objective was to introduce more product varieties to attract more consumers.
However, without the right technological expertise, they struggled to gain visibility into transactions and share catalog, pricing, and order data across third-party vendors and online marketplace and delivery platforms.
To address these challenges, the client required a REST API-based solution for seamless communication between applications and devices. Additionally, the solution needed to be SFTP-enabled for secure file transfer and management. They also required technical assistance in handling product feeds – whole and partial.
The Solution
The client partnered with Persistent Systems for our proven track record of technologically transforming several enterprises in the retail domain with digital transformation efforts.
We implemented Intelligent Product Feeds Solution, a streaming service to consume all data across sources via Apache Kafka. The purpose was to store data in a common database with processing (filtering required data per vendor) and share it securely across all vendors in specific formats. It was critical in ensuring seamless exchange of data per the business needs – delta and full feeds while improving the scalability and reliability of the system.
We implemented a secure API-based integration to ensure the real-time enrichment of vendors’ messaging. Moreover, we also provided SFTP-based periodic enrichment of the same through an automation tool.
The Outcome
The multinational retail corporation processed and shared 12M+ records across vendors while successfully onboarding multiple vendors in just six months. More functionalities and features were enabled for existing vendors as well.
Most importantly, the client now has up-to-the-minute visibility into data across vendors/partners for improved business interaction. This has helped them achieve 55% boost in revenue during the last Black Friday sales.
